This Privacy Policy explains how yourbutler.app inc. ("Butler," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, stores, and protects personal information when you access or use the Butler mobile application, our website, any related dashboards, tools, support channels, or content, and any other services that link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the "Service").
Butler is designed to help households remember what they need, receive reminders at the right time, restock before they run out, save money through store-specific deals, and coordinate household logistics. Depending on the features you use, the Service may include grocery and household item tracking, shared household lists, shopping runs, deal matching, purchase confirmations, reminders, optional health-related logistics, and caregiver access features.
By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy and understand how we handle your information.
The Service is operated by yourbutler.app inc., Barrie, Ontario, Canada. If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, contact us at info@yourbutler.app.
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we collect in connection with the Service. It does not apply to third-party websites, apps, or services linked from Butler, retailers, pharmacies, affiliate merchants, or other partners you may interact with through Butler, app stores, device manufacturers, or operating systems, or third parties we do not control. Those third parties may have their own privacy policies and practices.
Butler is a consumer app for household organization, shopping support, reminders, and related logistics. Butler is not a medical provider, pharmacy, insurer, emergency service, or healthcare professional. Any health-related features are provided for organizational and reminder purposes only and are not medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or emergency monitoring. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Service.
We collect information you provide when you create an account, complete onboarding, add items, use features, invite household members, contact support, or otherwise interact with the Service. This includes:
Because Butler supports shared households, information you enter may be visible to other authorized household members based on the household roles and permissions you set. This may include grocery items, reminders, runs, assigned tasks, notes, and certain optional health or caregiver entries.
We use personal information to create and manage your account, authenticate users, store lists and preferences, provide Butler Pulse predictions and restock timing, provide Butler Price Match and store-specific savings features, send notifications and reminders, support household coordination, support optional health and caregiver features you enable, personalize the Service, improve product performance, respond to support requests, protect against misuse and fraud, and comply with legal obligations.
We may also use de-identified or aggregated data to understand usage trends and develop new features.
By using the Service and providing personal information, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this Privacy Policy, subject to your choices and applicable law.
We comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation. Canadian residents may have additional rights under applicable law.
Where required, we may request separate or additional consent for precise location access, camera or photo access, push notifications, health-related features, new uses not reasonably covered by this Privacy Policy, or promotional communications where consent is required. You may withdraw consent to certain uses at any time, subject to legal or technical limitations.
Butler is designed for shared household coordination. If you create, join, or participate in a shared household, some information may be visible to other authorized members of that household depending on the role, permissions, and feature settings in place. This may include grocery and household item lists, reminders, tasks, shopping runs, purchase confirmations, notes, and selected health or caregiver information if those features are enabled. Please use household invitations and permissions carefully.
Butler stores health-related entries as user-defined reminders and logistics labels — not clinical records. Butler is a reminder and logistics tool, not a medical records system. This is the same approach as putting "blood pressure pill" in Apple Reminders or Google Calendar. No diagnosis, dosage recommendations, or clinical language is stored or generated by Butler. This keeps Butler outside the scope of Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
If you use optional health-related features, you may choose to enter medication names, refill timing, dosage schedules, appointment details, health supplies, and caregiver notes. We use this information only to provide the features you request, personalize reminders, support sharing or caregiver access you enable, improve your experience, and maintain the Service. We do not use health-related information to provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment decisions.
If you allow location access, we may use location data to improve local deal relevance, identify nearby stores, localize store coverage, and tailor offers, runs, and reminders. You can disable location access at the device or app-permission level. If you do, some location-based features may not work as expected.
Depending on the features you use, Butler may request access to notifications, camera, photo library, and location. We use these permissions only for the associated features. You can manage these permissions in your device settings.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We may share personal information in the following circumstances:
We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. When personal information is no longer needed, we will delete it, anonymize it, or securely destroy it, as appropriate.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, theft, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include access controls, encryption in transit, encryption at rest where appropriate, authentication protections, logging and monitoring, secure development and deployment practices, and role-based internal access. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your password, device, and household invitations secure.
We and our service providers may process or store personal information in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions where we or our providers operate. As a result, personal information may be accessible to courts, regulators, or law-enforcement authorities in those jurisdictions under their laws. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed outside your province or country of residence, subject to applicable safeguards.
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to access personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, request deletion of certain information, withdraw consent to certain uses, manage push notifications, manage location permissions, unsubscribe from marketing communications, and close your account. To make a privacy request, contact us at info@yourbutler.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding to certain requests.
You may request to close your account by contacting us at info@yourbutler.app. Closing your account may not immediately remove all information from backups, logs, or systems where retention is required for legal, security, or legitimate business purposes. If you are part of a shared household, some household data may remain with the household unless it is separately deleted.
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, apps, merchants, pharmacies, delivery services, or social platforms. We are not responsible for the privacy, security, or content practices of those third parties. Please review their privacy policies before using them.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as by updating the "Last Updated" date, posting the revised policy on our website or in the app, displaying an in-app notice, or contacting you directly where appropriate. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you acknowledge the updated Privacy Policy, subject to any additional consent required by law.
